Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Post, pt 1

Okay, so, I’ve been watching some of the Doctor Who specials leading up to the big episode, ‘Day of the Doctor’. Yes, I’m a fan. Yes, I’m stoked. Yes, I know some people my age or older still think Doctor Who is just some rickety old kid’s show from Ol’ Blighty, and not worth the wobbly sets they shot on. To them, I say STFU.

Doctor Who has been steadily becoming more mainstream, and I consider it some of the finest family entertainment science fiction ever made. I say that without a trace of irony. It’s my favourite show, beating out Life on Mars and Farscape by a small but comfortable margin. And while I’m not given to fannish geekery the way some of my friends and acquaintances are, I still think it’s an enormously influential show, and I really want to live to see the 100th anniversary, because that, to me, will be the coolest time travel trick I will ever perform, assuming I live another fifty years.

I will be watching a few more specials while I wait to go pick up Dawn and take her to my family’s house for a deep fried turkey dinner. I think it will be nice, though I know I won’t get to see the new episode there, because I’ll be late.

So today’s post is dedicated to Doctor Who, and I’ll probably do a follow-up post to review the episode, because I do that some times, and if I can’t manage a review for the 50th anniversary episode, what the fuck and I doing here, right?

Thanks for reading, and here’s a little laugh for you:

I took this quiz, and Congratulations! You’re the Eighth Doctor!

You’re a true romantic, a real believer in the power of people and their collective abilities.

You may have seen some unpleasant things in your time, had to deal with traumatic events, but you’ve never let them soil the purity of your faith in the basic goodness of humans, and this is written across your face.

It’s a hugely attractive feature, and this can sometimes lead you into trouble. but people generally feel better for having spent some time in your presence.”

Lee.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think, now.
