Don’t Write Me Off As An Also-Ran

Morning Mackadamian Nuts,

This is a draft of a post I was working on back in December. It’s remarkable because, quite frankly, I can’t remember it. I’ve been blogging so much in the last handful of months that I honestly can’t remember half of what I’ve said. I find myself checking for comments and such, and there are almost never any, but the really remarkable thing is that I’ve talked about all sorts of really important stuff and then weeks later start wondering if I’ve ever covered said topic.

This to my mind tells me I need to take a rest, but honestly, I feel weird on those rare days I do take time off to rest. It’s not so much a habit as a compulsive fear that I’m letting you folks down if I don’t at least post my grocery list or something, which is stupid, because frankly, any of you people who read regularly are here in the hope that I have something interesting or at least amusing to say.

Anyway, without any awareness of whether I posted this piece or not, I thought it might be amusing to see what I was talking about back in December, to see if anything has changed:

One of these mornings, I’m going to have a plan of attack for all of the things I want to do before my agent wakes up, and I’m going to have a phenomenally productive day no matter what else happens. So far today, I’ve done pretty well for myself, except that I haven’t made any progress on the stuff that really counts: the books. I HAVE actually made some progress on A book, but not one I’ve talked about before, and for good reason.

One of the titles I’ve been planning all this time has been a short collection of my fanfic, which I will only give away as a freebie to fans of my writing who actually want me to play with other writers’ toys every once in a while. Not many of those (and most certainly not for sale or even available on the usual ebook websites, so I don’t run into copyright infringement suits or C&Ds or account closures and such), but I still have a few things I’ve been wanting to write, which I’ve started sorting out and begun writing for that project, just as a way to clear out some of my backlog of ideas.

Most of it is just little vignettes and shorts, so it won’t be a particularly deep read, but then, it’s free, so what have you lost, really? Time? A longer book would take longer and still be free. Besides, if this one proves to be popular enough, I might make another one, which you can add to the set.

So that’s where I am right now; just trying to get the freebie project and the blogs out of the way so I can get back to work on the novels I plan on releasing this month. I guess this is going to be a slightly crazy month, not least of which because of the holiday season. We’ll probably put up the Christmas decorations today, if I don’t manage to get my agent out of the apartment to look at the pretty houses south of Herkimer.

Time to get back to work. Thanks for reading.

Eddie.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think, now.
