Fell On Black Days

I don’t think I have a long eulogy for Chris. He was about five years older than me. His death hasn’t been explained yet. He died after a Soundgarden gig in Detroit, which apparently he had really enjoyed.

Yeah, I’ve been a fan for a long time. I used to say that, when the giants of the grunge movement mastered songwriting, rock music was going to change. It did. Not always for the best, but it definitely moved further down the line, thanks to bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Blind Melon, and various other bands that didn’t quite make the cut, but were huge around 92 (Mudhoney comes to mind).

So goodnight, Chris. Sleep well.

ETA: News outlets are now reporting it as a possible suicide. I could easily scare up a few thousand very sympathetic words about suicide and mental illness. I won’t, only because it’s still too early to be certain. I’ll return when there’s more news.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think, now.
