The Duchess of Kirkcaldy Always Smiling and Arriving Late For Tea

Okay, so, as I was saying yesterday, I’ve been up to my armpits in busy (there’s an image for your early morning breakfast browsing).

First off, my wife appears to be getting sick, after resisting for over a month. No chest muck, as of yet, but she has a runny nose and a very sore throat. Very worried about her. And my throat appears to be getting a little sore as well. Hmmn. [ETA: my wife now informs me that she has tonsillitis]

Second, I am trying to prepare a neighbourhood news zine, so far with no content. Fun times. The logo looks good, even though it’s essentially someone else’s font and basic idea. I DID gussy it up a bit, though, as it my wont.

Third, I have meetings to go to again. Not sure if that’s something I’m proud of, or leery of. I had been hoping to have a steep reduction in civic involvement meetings to go to this year. Ah well.

Fourth, I’m trying to design and render my submission for the Carter Park Mural. My concept is teasingly just out of my grasp, and I have multiple sheets of paper prepared to help get it all sorted out.

Fifth, I am considering rushing to the finish line on The APproximate Distance To Limbo, so I can submit it to the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest.

Sixth, I’m back to doing the house cleaning and occasional driveway shovelling for my mother’s house. I earn a few bucks this way, which are much needed, so I don’t complain, but it IS a bally strange situation, on the face of it.

And finally, I’m planning to go to the season 3.2 opening event of Out With Dad. To prepare for this, I’m trying to get through the first part of the season, as I still haven’t had time to finish it, and it’s stressing em out because I know poor Vanessa gets it in the neck. I don’t know how I’ll react to sitting in a theatre watching the second act without a pause button to press.

So as you can imagine, blogging has become a bit difficult. I plan to rectify this by writing some reviews, but even those are hard to crank out right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to get on top of it some time today. First, however, I’ll have to move these hard drives off of my desk, and set aside another day to finish moving all of the pertinent data onto the 3TB hard drive our friend Dave donated to us.

Anyway, I could comment about the sad events of the last week or so (Phillip Seymour Hoffman dying was a total bummer, and I actually thought I’d catch flak for taking the low road and defending him for what was no doubt a serious problem with depression and addiction, rather than ‘just some junkie asshole’ like I expected a lot of people to do; I couldn’t have been more surprised when that proved to be the tack that most people took, and the more traditional ‘what a jerk’ attitude proved to be the unpopular one. How the worm has turned…), or I could comment about the state of sexism and discrimination in the Spec Fic Publishing industry (I’m ashamed of Raymond Feist, and I think Sean P. Fodera should be run out on a rail for his insensitivity and clear aggression towards feminist women, and in particular toward Mary Robinette Kowal, who can dress any damn way she pleases, Sean, thank you very much. Kudos to John Scalzi for taking him to task. You were almost too nice, John, but I get it. We all slip up ans say stupid stuff. But some of what he said is a strong indicator that there is something a bit wrong going on there.), but it’s time for me to get some work done.

Thank you for reading.

Lee.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think, now.
