To Sleep, Perchance To Dream

So, I woke up from an unusual dream that sort of fleshed itself out even as I was waking, where my favourite classic cartoon series, Little Nemo’s Adventures in Slumberland, had moved on about thirty years, and we now see Slumberland as grandiose but run down, aged and weathered where before everything looked pristine. Into this comes the titular hero, Micah ‘Mike’ Nemovitz, the original hero all grown up and working sporadically as a private investigator. he’s learned that his beloved Princess was orphaned after her father, the King of Slumberland, died from mysterious causes. He returns to Slumberland to find his love and save her from a life of loneliness and sadness.

What he discovers is that, just as he has moved on to become the hero of first a Terry and the Pirates adventure strip and then a Dick Tracy crime noir comic strip in later years, she too went on to big adventures without him, as a Little Orphan Annie-type, falling into misadventures and a life of seedy corruption.

Now, I’ve had more time to think about it and polish it up a bit, but that’s the basic gist of the last thing I dreamed this morning as I woke. And so, I came out to make some notes, in case I decide to follow through and actually make a series of stories in a Winsor McCay art style with a running narrative. O perhaps a series of single page paintings. Or both. The idea is pretty cool, and I think I could have some fun with it, if I were able to make time for it.

However, instead of making notes, I made a logo, because that’s what I do.
