Okay, (almost) no one special to me, either remotely or closely, has passed away recently, so that’s good. That said, Alan White is sitting out the latest Yes tour due to health reasons, so that’s not good, either. I’ve probably not posted too many ‘2016 on notice’ comments, due to the absurd futility of it. All that said, I think a good portion of my head has decided to hate this year unconditionally, despite my best efforts to do otherwise.

Fuck 2016.

And while I’m at it, fuck the last twenty five years of lowered expectations and self-righteousness and ‘fuck you, I got mine, what’s your damage?’ that brought us to this point. We were going to be so much cooler than this by now. Everything we were promised was sold out from under us or devalued to the point where no one wants it anymore anyway. Saddest fucking millennium shift imaginable. And the world’s best answers to all of this is Trump and Pokemon Go?

Fuck 2016.

As far as I’m concerned, the last good year was 1982. After that, the Greed is Good society took over the Western World, and we haven’t been the same since. Not even close to admitting that the world needs help. Oh, sure, some musicians and artists and such tried to make some change for the better, but ultimately, they couldn’t do enough to stop the entire society I’d been raised to believe in from being swept away before it even got a chance to shine. I was a child in the 70s, minted on Boxing Day, 1970, and into Pierre Trudeau’s Canada, where a lot of high flown culture and philosophy were being cemented into our consciences to forge us into a strong, brave, independent Canada. We were going to make the world beautiful. We failed. Sure they were pretty much lies, but they were the right lies, and now all we’ve got are the kind of lies that keep concentrating wealth into the hands of a dwindling few who figure they know how to handle it better than us, so fuck the poor, too.

I’m tired of this age of greed. It’s well past it’s Best Before date. We’ve seen what it does, and still we support this rickety structure of lies and self-loathing on the off chance that we too might ascend to Mount Money and live out our days in luxury. We can’t accept that we’ve been had, so we just double down time after time after time, mortgaging our souls and those of our unborn children’s children’s children, because we’ve been conditioned not to think about it too much. We’re a society of debtors and collectors, and it’s obscene and insane and it needs to stop.

And why is it that, when I point all this stuff out to people I grew up with, they think I’ve gone wrong and need correcting. Fuck that! I’m not the one who thinks this rigged contest is Operating As Intended. When did we all become so jaded and gullible at once? When did we become so compliant while being so cynical about it all, like we agree with everything that is being done to us, because we have no choice? Who told us that, anyway? Think about that. Really think about it, long and hard. I’ll bet you can’t remember when you first started hearing that there is only so much wealth and prosperity to go around. That the best we can do for ourselves is to make sure that OUR ultra rich have all the money, so THEIR ultra rich don’t. And Socialism… since when is that actually a bad word? Seriously. Do you know what it actually is? Have you actually read the definition? Do you understand what that means? Really? Because if you do and you still think it’s an evil abomination, then you too are a dupe of the Capitalist society you’ve been raised into. You want me to say it? I’ll say it.

Fuck Capitalism.

Read a book, fuckers. Capitalism was only good when it worked in tandem with the Socialist ideals of the FDR New Deal. That was when it worked. That was when everyone rose up as one and lived moderately decent lives, at least on this continent, and at least if they were on the books. And it wasn’t perfect, and lots of people (mainly People of Colour) got left out, and the sins of the past had yet, and still have yet to be repaid. But the truth is, we can’t keep shovelling all of the world’s wealth into the hands of people who rule from on high like our own royal families, bamboozling us into thinking that the only route to happiness is to keep giving them our blood sweat and tears for the empty promise of personal fortune. It’s bullshit, and most of us will never, ever see it.

So fuck all that. First chance I get, I am out of here, and heading for the fucking hills. You people are crazy.

Lee.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think, now.
